Q & A with Kathy from 1995

When did you start podcasting?

My podcast launched Feb 1, 2017

Why did you start podcasting?

First of all I am a podcast junkie.

Started listening to The Moth about 9 years ago.

Secondly, I spent 10 years as a broadcast journalist (radio reporter) before moving on to a career in media relations and communications.

While I was a reporter for a Toronto radio station I covered some pretty amazing stories.

I saved a lot of my notes and tapes and thought it would be great to share them with a wider audience through a podcast.

What’s your show about?

My show is called 1995 and looks at some of the incredible news stories that year – many of which I covered as a reporter in Toronto.

Season one focuses on the trial of Paul Bernardo – Canada’s most notorious killer. I sat inside the court for 4 months covering the trial from start to finish.

Season one of 1995 is broken up into 7 episodes and provides a first hand account of the trial with tons of great tape from all of the players involved.

Up next for 1995 will be an episode on the OJ Simpson verdict. I was outside the LA county courthouse that day.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

Currently I record the podcast in the closet of my spare bedroom.

I use a Yeti Mic and Audacity Software. Libsyn is my amazing podcast host.

How have you promoted your podcast?

I have promoted my podcast on Facebook and Twitter and through a Private FB group called “Podcasts We Listen To.”

The members of this group are hugely supportive of new podcasters!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

I wish I knew a better way to mix music into my podcast – I have not been able to figure out how to do this well with Audacity ☹

Remember 1995? Whether you do or you don’t this is a must listen podcast. It will certainly help you remember things that you didn’t even know you needed to remember! Go ahead and subscribe!
