Q & A with Liz from I Always Wanted To
When did you start podcasting?
I started my podcast in May of 2018.
Why did you start podcasting?
I was coaching women on pursuing their dreams and it occurred to me that I knew people (myself included) who were doing things and living lives that others could learn from and be inspired by.
What’s the name of your show and what is it about?
My guests would be regular people who talk about the things they’re doing that others have always wanted to do. They’d tell their stories and give advice and encouragement. Thus I Always Wanted To was born.
People’s dreams are diverse. There are lots of ways to finish the sentence I Always Wanted To: Learn to Sing, Travel By Myself, Join the Peace Corps, Play the Piano, Run for Office, Be A Farmer, Go Into Outer Space. The list goes on. What have you always wanted to try?
What’s your podcasting set-up?
I’ve been using Libsyn as my podcast host since I started and it has served me well. I originally used Zoom for recording with my phone headset and GarageBand for editing. I have since switched to Squadcast with a Rode condenser mic for recording and Hindenburg Journalist Pro for editing.
How have you promoted your podcast?
Along with my intention to upgrade the sound quality I am making a concerted effort to build my audience with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and self-promotion. I’ve recently found great resources in Clubhouse.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
I enjoy the entire process– finding fascinating guests, pulling out their stories and sharing them. I even like editing! While it is a lot of work, creating a podcast is completely engaging.
Audio quality is important and guests need to use a microphone. And I’m a darned good interviewer!
