Q & A with The Relaxed Male

When did you start podcasting?

I started podcasting back in 2012. It lasted about a year and I have had a few podcasts between then and now. Tried many different formats and I have always gravitated to the teacher format; that being where I share what I know and from time to time bring a guest on.

Why did you start podcasting?

I started podcasting because it seemed like it was a fun way to try to grow a community. I liked that you could blog without having to actually spend the time to blog. Then I found out that you need to have show notes and there went that idea. So I accepted that I was going to write and found that I enjoy writing.

What’s the name of your show and what is it about?

My show’s name is The Relaxed Male. It is a show that helps men find their masculinity and help them understand that masculinity isn’t toxic. It isn’t bad. Society needs men to be masculine. The same as it needs femininity.

We talk about what the responsibilities of a man are and why they are important for themselves and for their families and for their community. I do this so that they are able to step up to better themselves and to help their sons find their way in their life.

Sadly masculinity has been shamed for a long time and I believe that is why society is so tumultuous because the great men have stepped away.

Now, this may sound like it is a boo-hoo fest about “Oh where have the good men gone?” but in reality, it is about having men take responsibility for their actions.

How taking responsibility for what they did in their lives and have them own their dirt can actually help them in their relationships with their wives. Bettering themselves helps build better relationships with their kids and allows them to have a stronger influence over their sons.

If men can relax and not get so worked up over the small things, the guiding and mentoring for their teenage sons almost happen all by itself. The Relaxed Male isn’t a political show but actually a business card for my Coaching practice where we build the men their sons need.

What’s your podcasting set-up?

My setup is simple. At the moment I record on my iPhone then send it over to my iMac running BigSur for processing. Then run it through Auphonic to pretty it up a bit and get the levels right. Then upload to Libsyn for scheduling.

How have you promoted your podcast?

I normally share on different social media sights, Facebook, Twitter, Minds, locals, and such. I get some responses from a few promotional groups I visit. I Normally share the episode the day it airs. And then on Saturday, I will share an older episode.

I also have my podcast listed on as many directories as I can find. So far Gaana is the big winner for me.

I have more listeners in India than I do here in the US. Which is wild in my opinion. I am on Google Podcasts, Amazon/Audible, Spotify, Pandora, Blubrry, TuneIn, Stitcher, and RadioPublic, Goodpods, Podchaser (I know it’s a rating and review site but still made sure I was listed there), and of course Apple Podcasts App.

I have made it as easy as I can to be found on all the popular podcatchers by having links to those directories too. So If you are a Castro user, you can go to my site /castro and it will show up on that app.
