Q & A with David from Blame Your Brother

When did you start podcasting?

I started podcasting in 2007.

My wife had got me an iPod for my birthday and once I discovered the niche back then known as podcasts, I was ready to start my own.

I hosted a music podcast for several years, which was hosted by myself. Along the way, I’ve had a few others but started Blame Your Brother in 2017 with my brother (Lee) and my best friend (John).

Why did you start podcasting?

I was always a fan of talk radio and this was my opportunity to get into that world.

Along the way, the three of us on Blame Your Brother have always been into entertainment. We were part of Community Access Television in the late 90’s and then were in a band together for many years as well.

I think we geniunely love entertaining people and also love the excuse to hang out and talk to each other.

What’s the name of your show and what is it about?

The name of our podcast is Blame Your Brother. Our description of the show is an irreverent look at news and society.

We talk about our own lives and also talk about the news, pop culture, and give out life advice as well. We do try to make it fun and try to be funny occasionally.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

We stream the show live as we record it. We use a GoPro to stream the show out on YouTube, Periscope, and Facebook Live.

We use a Behringer Mixer for our levels and record into a Zoom Recorder. We use Condenser Microphones for our vocals.

Levelator and Audacity help us finish up the job. Audacity is an amazing free program that makes editing available to everyone!

How have you promoted your podcast?

We promote our podcast on Social Media. We have found that Twitter and Instagrams are great tools for networking with other shows and also making new people aware of ours.

We also have found that having various guests on the show helps get the word out to people.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

We’ve tried self hosting our files and free services along the way, but it would have been nice to use Libysn from the start. It’s very user friendly and the stats are amazing.

Looking to catch up on news, pop culture and other things from a fun and unique perspective? Not so serious? And possibly helpful? Time to check out Blame Your Brother!
