Q & A with The She Compass Show

What’s the name of your show about and what is it about?

“Sisters on a symbiotic voyage make rogue waves quiver.” – SheCompass.com

The She-Compass Show is a place for women to come together to connect, relate, and empower themselves and others. Our weekly shows feature interviews with key female figures as well as discussions about current events and how they affect women.

Through the power of graceful, witty, and compassionate storytelling, we provide listeners with motivating and inspirational content filled with advice on how to overcome life’s challenges, discover their own sense of purpose, and empower themselves and their sisterhood.

The She-Compass Show is based on the lessons of our book Finding Our She-Compass: 15 Life Lessons for Women Voyaging toward Restoration, Reconstruction, and Renewal.

The award-winning, memoir-novella is set in beautiful San Francisco and is chock full of funny, uplifting and inspirational true-to-life stories of varied women aged 18 to 55 of different races, backgrounds, lifestyles, and socio-economic levels who have overcome great obstacles to rise to their greatest potential.

Each character’s tumultuous journey toward self-discovery and complex relationships with other women leave readers with wisdom, enlightenment, and tools for success.

Why did you start podcasting?

Helen Owens, author of Finding Our She-Compass, has been providing sage advice to women for decades in her career as a hair-replacement specialist for women.

Over the years she has discovered that rebuilding a woman’s crowning glory means serving as counselor, healer, friend, and having the ability to help women boost their self-esteem and personal power.

Her work helped her develop a compass that could help women fully develop their self-worth and discover their unique paths in life. Her podcast allows her to bring that compass to life and guide and encourage listeners to become captains of their ships and commanders of their souls.

When did you start podcasting?

Our podcast went into development in September 2017 and began broadcasting its message of female empowerment via audio and video in March 2018.

With over 1000 views in its first week on YouTube, The She-Compass Show is also distributed to major podcasting channels (iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud, Stitcher, etc.)

How have you promoted your podcast?

For decades, host Helen Owens has been a leader in showing women how to crest life’s rogue waves and boldly swim to shore. An award-winning community leader, she, and her podcast have been recognized by a host of organizations.

She is a winner of the distinguished national “Shining Star” award presented by veteran, internationally-known Posner Cosmetics, an accolade given to women committed to improving their community and uplifting the lives of others. She is a nominee-finalist in Public Service for CityFlight Magazine’s “Top 10 Most Influential African-Americans in the Bay Area,” and has appeared on CNBC.
