Q & A with Adriel from The Adrielomo Audio Experience

When did you start podcasting?

I uploaded my first piece of audio content in November 2017.

Why did you start podcasting?

I always heard Entrepreneur, Gary Vaynerchuk, preach about documenting your journey in audio (podcasting) form, because it’s passive consumption.

Which means you can listen to podcasts while driving, walking, and essentially whenever and wherever you want.

With vlogs, on the other hand, you can’t go away from the YouTube app and multitask, so you have to sit there and watch.

I realized that I couldn’t go on with my entrepreneurial journey without telling the world about it in some way while also trying to provide value, because I believe that the people who are willing to discuss their journeys instead of trying to front themselves as the “next big thing” are going to win.

What’s the name of your show about and what is it about?

My podcast is called,The Adrielomo Audio Experience, which stems from Gary Vaynerchuk’s podcast title (The GaryVee Audio Experience).

Since he’s an inspiration of mine and his podcast essentially documents his entrepreneurial journey, I thought it would be fit so I put my personal brand/side hustle name, ‘Adrielomo’ in place.

The ‘omo’ in the name stands for “On My Own” (a thing started by music artist, PARTYNEXTDOOR”). I had ‘adrielomo’ as my social media handles for a few years, and decided that’s the name I would associate my personal brand with, because I think it sounds cool and I’m doing a lot of things in life on my own.

My podcast is about my entrepreneurial journey, so I’ll record interviews I’ve done, business meetings, thoughts, and updates on things going on in my business world, and put them out for the whole world to hear. It’s actually a smart strategy, because I essentially don’t spend time creating content for my podcast (besides thoughts & updates). I just clip on a mic to myself and off I go.

I don’t do interviews, have meetings, or create content just for the sake of having content to put out. I’m not a fan of that. If there’s no content for weeks, it’s because I have nothing to share.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

My podcast setup is simple. I attach a Lavalier mic to my shirt and I record the audio through the Voice Memos app on my phone, so the mic is attached to my phone.

I plan to get a wireless mic set in the near future so it’s more convenient. After I’m done recording I’ll send the file to my email and edit it using Adobe Audition.

How have you promoted your podcast?

I promote my podcast by putting a link in my Instagram and Twitter profiles that links to a page with the platforms my podcast is on, because not everyone listens to podcasts on the Apple Podcasts app, and not everyone has apple devices, so having one centralized link that links to all the platforms is better.

I also create micro-content that lives on Instagram, which stems from a part of an episode. So I’ll share a clip on an informational part of an episode that brings value, which can potentially lead to new listeners, because you may say something that resonates with someone.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

I now know that creating a cadence of when your audience should expect new episodes and putting out content weekly or daily, will make your podcast perform better.

As I stated earlier, since I’m not running a show that’s built on me sitting down talking, there’s no way for me to put out content on a weekly or daily basis, because activity isn’t happening on a daily basis, and sometimes for weeks.
