Q & A with Johnny from Thrashbacks

When did you start podcasting? Why did you start podcasting? What’s your show about?

We started last week because we couldn’t find anything else like we envisioned; Thrashbacks is a hyper-local show focused on current culture and nostalgic stories of the past.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

We use Shure SM48s, an Alesis 4 channel powered mixer, record and edit in GarageBand and point our custom domain, DIabloValley.org, to our basic Libsyn website. We also use Zoom mics in the field.

How have you promoted your podcast?

We’ve promoted our show using the basic social channels; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We’re in iTunes and Google Play.

We also promote old-school, like we’re in a band. It’s a local show, so things like t-shirts, mugs, stickers, flyers, cards, buttons, etc. work for us.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

I know now to go with the flow and not be too rigid about your vision.

We had a specific idea of the show in the planning stages, but when we got on the mics and let things evolve naturally, we came up with an even better podcast.
