Why did you start podcasting?
Always wanted to start a podcast!
What’s your show about?
My show includes a mix of interviews and solo shows teaching people how to self-publish and market their books to Amazon and other eBook and paperback retailers.
What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.
I use a Shure 55SH mic into a Roland VT–3 voice transformer then to Mackie 1402-VLZ4 mixer and finally into a Roland R–26 digital recorder.
I use Skype for interviews into a PC and host my website on WordPress.
How have you promoted your podcast?
I have mainly used social media to promote my show, by regularly posting on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
I have paid for traffic from LinkedIn (as they keep sending me free advertising credits), but recently have started being much more professional about it, extracting three quotes per show and creating quotes graphics for each platform.
This has had particular success on Instagram (in terms of followers at least).
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
That it is a lot easier to grow an audience using any other platform than podcasting.
Podcasting is a great way to get a connection with your audience but if you are starting from scratch and want audience growth then try live video or blogging!
