Q & A’s with Carey Green from Podcast Fast Track and more!

When did you start podcasting?

The first podcast episode I published was July 24, 2012 and it was episode #1 of the Christian Home and Family podcast.

Why did you start podcasting?

I launched that first podcast as a way to help launch the CHAF brand. It was/is a venture aimed at helping Christian families build homes that honor God.

Through it we offer marriage intensive weekends, premarital counseling, and other forms of help. The podcast was a means to getting noticed and building authority in the space.

What is your show about?

The Christian Home and Family podcast tag line is: Radical Faith for Generations. The show helps Christian parents develop radical Christian faith in their family that lasts for generations to come.

The Podcastification podcast is a fun look at the world of podcasting with tips, tricks, interviews, insights, and best practices shared to help people start a show, keep their show going, or make it better.

The Live Build Change podcast is designed to help Christian people LIVE their faith authentically, BUILD a business, and CHANGE the world through the integration of those two things.

The aim is to teach people how to develop channels of side income, leading to the birth of a business, and the utilization of the profits to fund causes and needs that can truly change the world.

What is your podcasting set-up?

I’ve always kept it simple. I use an AT2005 USB microphone plugged directly into my laptop.

I use Audacity to record and edit. I use Auphonic to optimize all files.

I host at Libsyn (naturally) and use WordPress as my CMS.

I use the player embed for each episode of my podcasts.

If I’m going remote, I have a Tascam DR–05 digital recorder that I use as is (no external mics used). I then take the files recorded, drop them into Audacity, and edit/produce the episode.

How have you promoted your podcast?

Poorly to this point but I’m making some adjustments to my process to include better promotion.

My main approach at this point is to build relationships within communities online and share relevant content to the conversation.

I’ve also just subscribed to a social media platform that lets me recycle shared content over and over and I plan to share content in conversational, appealing, fun ways not “Listen to my podcast! Listen to my podcast! Listen to my podcast!”

What do you know now, that you wish you knew when you started?

  • Consistency matters.
  • Relax and speak about what you know in an authentic way.
  • Use @mentions on social media when you share content pertaining to your show’s guests. It enables you to share the content with them and allows them to use it to promote their brand (and your show).
  • Your media host matters. The many publication options Libsyn has make it a no-brainer for me. (no suck-up intended, there) As my brands grow I intend to make good use of the Libsyn app option as well.
  • Dave Jackson is the MAN!
