This series is all about libsyn podcasters. Its sole purpose is to introduce these awesome podcasts to the world as well as share their podcasting insight to empower the community!

Q & A’s with TC from Subject:CINEMA

When did you start podcasting?

Subject:CINEMA premiered in June 2006 – it is believed to be the second-oldest film podcast on the internet; the show is now in it’s eleventh year, we have over 600 full shows and specials under our belt, and it has also given birth to three spinoffs – Front Row Five and Ten, Three Minute Weekend, and Tuesday Digidex!

And we have another sort-of spinoff premiering on 2/1/27 – it’s called The Catastrophe Vortex with TC Kirkham and is all about that most Hollywood of Hollywood film, the DISASTER movie!

Why did you start podcasting?

My wife and I, both lifelong film fans, started a film blog called Popcorn N Roses in December 2005, and podcasting was the next logical progression – I had become a huge fan of “Filmspotting” (then known as “Cinecast”), and thought we could do a good job tackling the podcasting world with a different take on film.

It took a little while to talk Kim into it, but once we started, there’s been no looking back!

What’s your show about?

We started out as a film topic discussion show, but eventually, reviews crept in as well, and a bunch of other entertainment related stuff too; these days, we remain primarily a film review, news, and discussion show. We discuss all kinds of films, film topics, film news, and more!

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

We presently record using two AKG pro mics, using an outdated M-Audio preamp and record on an Acer PC using Sony Vegas; we’re currently running a Patreon campaign to raise funds to continue our growth, starting with some badly needed new equipment!

How have you promoted your podcast?

We promote our podcast all the time through our websites, via Facebook, Twitter, local film groups and theaters, and plenty more outlets as well.

We’ve also helped to sponsor a couple of local film festivals over the years as well.

We also run a MeetUp group through our Boston film site, and are running a Patreon campaign to help take our show to the next level.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

Podcasting is time consuming, but we enjoy every second of it. Sometimes I wish we had more hours in the day to do what we truly love to do – produce a fun, comic-oriented, morning zoo-style film show for our fans!
