Q & A with Courtney from Chicks With Flicks

When did you start podcasting?

Chicks with Flicks started recording in July 2015 and released our first episode on August 4, 2015.

Why did you start podcasting?

I was at a panel during a fandom convention, and it was all about getting started in podcasting. I noticed something about it: they were all middle-age dudes.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I started thinking all the podcasts I listened to and realized majority of them featured all male hosts.

So I got some of my lady friends together, and we started Chicks with Flicks in order to put more female voices out for downloads.

What’s your show about?

Chicks with Flicks reviews male-targeted movies with a cheeky, feminist eye.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

Our set up is pretty basic.

We use an iPad with the Recorder App Pro and Apogee MiC 96k.

It’s not the fanciest set up, but the cost and portability totally make up for that.

After uploading to the cloud, we use Audacity to edit.

We switched over to Libsyn as our hosting site not that long ago, and we are loving it! It is so nice to see how many people are listening to our show.

How have you promoted your podcast?

Mainly social media like Twitter or Facebook.

We leave flyers at cons and humble-brag all over the place. “Oh, did you hear we have a podcast now?”

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

Just because a hosting site is cheap, doesn’t mean it is good.
