Q & A with David from Menage A Tarot

When did you start podcasting?

I started podcasting nearly five years ago with Donald Dalton on the now retired podcast Take The Red Pill. This show is my third podcasting endeavor.

Why did you start podcasting?

I fell in love with the medium of podcasting the first time I listened to it. It’s a perfect venue of entertainment for people who want to produce entertaining content without having to “break into the industry”.

Plus I love to talk and people often comment on my voice and tell me I should consider radio. This is not the next best thing… it’s better.

What’s your show about?

Menage A Tarot is about Tarot… it’s a conversation between Ronda, Kate, and myself around anything having to do with the subject of Tarot.

We talk about what it’s like being a Tarot reader, interesting experience we have had doing readings, how Tarot has affected our lives, interesting questions or concerns we’ve heard from other readers, stuff like that. Really casual, fun, and informative.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

My setup is Sennheiser e835 mic through a Presonus Firebox audio interface. This connects to my Macbook Pro via Firewire/Thunderbolt.

For software I record into Garageband (sticking with version 6 for podcasting) using two tracks.

My track records directly while the other hosts come through Skype, which I record onto the other track via a smoke-and-mirrors set up of a combination of Soundflower 64 and LineIn.

Once the tracks are recorded I run them through Levelator then import them into Audacity for editing, then the final edited track comes back to Garageband to add theme music and mix down for publishing.

All audio files are uploaded to Libsyn via Fetch FTP client.

How have you promoted your podcast?

We each use our various websites to promote the show and new episodes:

Kate’s site
Ronda’s site

My site

(see what I did there?)

We also use our Facebook Page and Twitter feed, and we recently started a Pinterest page, great for all those lovely Tarot pictures. We also have a Tumbler page, so we’ve got that going.

Let’s not forget love from Libsyn through avenues such as these…

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

We each take turns proposing the topic for the next episode, so we know what we’ll be talking about well before we record.

We usually have next episode’s topic set by the end of the current episode. I like an unscripted style with no outline, but it’s nice to have a couple of bullet points to go to.

Having a pre-established topic and some points to cover really makes a difference going into the conversation before pressing the record button.

If you are REALLY into Tarot, why wouldn’t you want to dive into this podcast? And even if you have no idea about Tarot, it would be fun to get to know the whole thing from a threesome of different voices. Don’t delay and subscribe.

If you know a subject inside and out and have some friends that you want to start a podcast with, then you don’t have to go any further! We would love to host your media.
