Q & A with Ludwina Dautovic from Switched On

When did you start podcasting?

I started podcasting in 2010. My first show was called ‘Red Tent Radio’ and is still available on iTunes.

I recorded 66 episodes before the show folded. My business had changed so the focus of the show was no longer relevant.

I then produced a show called ‘It’s That Easy’ which was purely set up for the release of my book ‘It’s That Easy – Online Marketing 3.0’.

I’m also the co-host of another ongoing Podcast called ‘Podcast Like a Pro’ and am now producing a new show called ‘Switched On’ which will be my ongoing business podcast.

Why did you start podcasting?

I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer earlier that year.

I needed to figure out a way to keep my business brand alive while I was working through it. My criteria was ‘what can I do to keep my brand alive that doesn’t require me to look good, feel good or go anywhere?’ Podcasting was the ideal answer as I could do it in bed.

I ended up interviewing global CEO’s of major corporations in my pajamas. Little did I know that it would be the single most smartest online marketing strategy I could ever do. (BTW I’m nearly four years Cancer free now)

My current show is my 4th podcast show. It’s called Switched On. I have Switched On conversations with global thought leaders in the areas of online, digital and new media. It’s not a ‘how to’ show, it’s a show that has me peering into their minds and extracting the core understandings, insights and future predictions of this industry.

It’s fairly new with only four episodes. So far I’ve had Chris Adams, Global CEO of Spondo.com, Andrew Grill former CEO Kred and now a Global Partner for IBM and my most recent episode is with Erik Qualman, the producer of the Social Media Revolution youtube videos that annually receive millions of hits.

The line up of future guests also includes Rob Walch from Libsyn. We recorded it the other day and had a blast.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

I keep it fairly simple. I have my laptop, a Blue Yeti Microphone, pop filter and I record using Skype and Callburner.

I’m about to get a mixer and digital recorder. It’s time to upgrade!

How have you promoted your podcast?

I use a multitude of strategies.

  • Create videos for YouTube that promote each episode that brings people to the show on iTunes
  • Email my database every time an episode goes out
  • Create a blog post/show notes page that are well titled and optimized
  • Post to social media sites and ask people to share
  • Ask friends and family to subscribe and share.
  • My guests promote the show to their social media and databases

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
