Q & A with Erik Fisher from Beyond The To-Do List

When did you start podcasting?

I’ve been podcasting off and on on multiple shows since 2007. Beyond the To-Do List is my first solo show, which was started in August of 2012.

Why did you start podcasting?

I started podcasting because I had something to say, and wanted to learn along with my audience.

What is your show about?

Beyond the To-Do List is an interview show with the people behind the productivity, not just lists and techniques.

I talk with real people who practically implement productivity strategies in their professional and personal lives. so others can refreshed and inspired after hearing how others fail and succeed at daily productivity and continue to lead successful and meaningful lives.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

My set up is very simple. I use a RODE Podcaster usb mic plugged in to my Macbook Pro. I record the interviews via skype using Skype recorder, and then edit and post process through Audacity.

How have you promoted your podcast?

As far as promotion, I’ve been grateful so many of the people I’ve interviewed have shared the show with their audiences. I’ve also reached out and shared it with my tribe that has been building since 2007, and many were very pleased to see me doing a new show.

Also, the subscribers do a lot of social sharing of the episodes when they learn a lot from them, and that helps as well.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

30 episodes in, I wish I had structured in more interviews ahead of time. As the show has gone on, I have been able to record a number of them at once, and then have them in the can prepared for scheduled release, giving me a less hectic production schedule.
