Q & A with Paula from Jump Start Your Joy

When did you start podcasting?

I started in September of 2015.

Why did you start podcasting?

I totally delight in hearing stories of people transforming their lives, or (re)discovering their life’s purpose.

I’ve been super inspired by the stories of people who have fought for joy, and followed their own path, so much so that I kept a running list of people I wanted to interview or collaborate with in some way.

After following several podcasts, I realized that it would be a great way to get to share the inspiring stories I’d been collecting, and a really great fit for me, since I love Improv and as of January, I’m now a full time life coach.

What’s your show about?

Jump Start Your Joy is about the transformative nature of joy, and what happens when people choose joy, even when it seems like the hardest choice out there. It’s mostly an interview show, and I also do a “solocast” about every other month.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

I have a PC (a Dell XPS) with a Blue mic, and I record using Skype and Pamela, and I edit with Audacity.

I use Calendly to schedule my interviews, and Canva to create my artwork and graphics.

How have you promoted your podcast?

I promote through online and social media, mostly. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.

Instagram is my favorite (you can find me at JumpStartYourJoy), and Twitter is my surprise traffic source.

After my interview with Danny Wood of New Kids, I got hooked on Twitter and now I really love the connection and community that come from tweeting on the regular.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

On the personal growth side – podcasting is an awesome journey. Speaking with your first “big name” person is going to freak you out completely, and instill a ton of confidence in you going forward.

Trust your intuition on the questions you want to ask, and be yourself on your show. Logistics wise – Get an editor 🙂 early, and just work that into your process. It’s totally worth the cost.
