Q & A with Summer Martin from The Unconventional Woman
When did you start podcasting?
I officially launched my show in July 2015.
I started a show in 2014, but never went through the process of hosting and using podcasts directories.
Why did you start podcasting?
I am a huge fan of podcasts in general and decided I wanted to create my own show. I felt like I have something to share with the world as well as the women on my show.
In hindsight, I am glad my original show didn’t see the light of day I went in a completely different direction (creatively).
What’s your show about?
The Unconventional Woman is a podcast featuring women talking about life in general.
Our motto is to challenge the status quo and live out our dreams the way we see fit.
What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.
I use both Skype and Garageband to record our conversations.
I also use 317 Sound Design for editing, Libsyn for hosting and Buffer for scheduling my episode releases.
How have you promoted your podcast?
I mainly utilize Social Media (i.e.Twitter, Instagram and Facebook), email marketing and word of mouth.
While I am active on a few directories, I don’t rely on them to be my primary marketing vessel.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
Scheduling is crucial, it’s the key element in being consistent with your episode releases. I now know the importance of planning ahead.
Words of advice:
Remain true to who you are, don’t try to be or sound like someone else.
Also quiet the noise, there is so much great advice out there but you have to trust your gut and go for what you know. Experience is the best teacher a lot of the time.
