Q & A with Randy from Odd Man Out

When did you start podcasting?

We recorded the first episode of Odd Man Out in July of this year, and waited until we had two more episodes in the bank before we released all three in early August.

Why did you start podcasting?

I (Randy) have wanted to produce podcasts for a long time and I’ve known Liz, Sarah, and Alan since high school.

One day Liz told me about their idea for Odd Man Out and I jumped at the chance to be involved at a producing/editing level.

What’s your show about?

Three life-long friends discuss pop culture topics such as movies, music, food, etc. But the twist is that two of the friends love said object of discussion, while the third hasn’t been exposed to it or doesn’t share their love for it already.

The Odd Man Out spends the week getting exposure to the subject matter, and off the discussion goes!

We rotate who is the Odd Man Out every episode, and every fourth episode is a special where all three of them gush about something they all share a love for.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

We record with three ATR–2100 microphones, a four channel mixer, and Garageband.

I do all the editing in Garageband.

How have you promoted your podcast?

We have a very strong twitter presence and active Facebook page.

Our biggest boon yet has been a shout-out we received on the StoryWonk Lightbulb podcast.

The recommendation they gave was very generous and the bump was tremendous for us.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

HOW HORRIBLE IT IS TO USE MULTIPLE USB MICS! DON’T DO IT!

If you’re interested in listening to a podcast with a super fun creative concept then you really do need to subscribe to Odd Man Out and of course be part of the community over on Twitter and Facebook.

If you have a handful of friends that have a super killer idea for a podcast we would love to help you get your podcast out into the world! Host your media with us!.
