Q & A with Dan Gorman From See You Next Wednesday

When did you start podcasting?

Greg, Casey and I started podcasting around late–2011 or early–2012.

The three of us held a few recording sessions to figure out a format, and a month or so later we landed with our concept and have been recording weekly ever since.

Why did you start podcasting?

Having been close friends for years, the three of us already hung out a lot – we would discuss the latest album releases and films, so it seemed like a natural fit to start recording our chats.

Then we had the idea to throw a ‘game’ into the mix, and the rest is history.

What’s your show about?

See You Next Wednesday is a weekly pop-culture and film podcast where the three of us roll a die every week, to decide which two hosts get to see a major film release that we are all excited about, and which of us has to see a film we have chosen as the ‘punishment movie’ that they must go see and report back about.

Plus, we talk about movie news, things we’ve seen recently, pop-culture news and happenings, and more.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

We operate using a sort of Frankenstein’d set up which includes a huge non-USB mixing board, sent to a Steinberg CI2.

Unfortunately, this means our audio is mixed down to one track before being sent through the CI2 and into REAPER, so we’re always extra careful about levels 😉

How have you promoted your podcast?

We have done grass-roots ad swaps with local businesses back when we first started, to sharing Station IDs with other podcasts, posting our episodes wherever possible (social assets, Reddit), cold-call style outreaching to blogs and much more.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

For me, when I listen back to old episodes I wish we knew about the ReaFIR plug-in on REAPER.

Our old episodes often have a buzzing effect from the Alesis Multimix that we had used, which could have been removed extremely easily using that plug-in.

It’s fantastic and powerful for simple noise reduction.

Fun conversation about movies and pop culture? Yes please! Are you ready to subscribe? I know you are 🙂 And they were named on of the Top 10 Toronto Podcasts!
