Q & A with Ingo and Matt from MMA Nuts

When did you start podcasting?

About 5 years ago we laid down the first episode which was a horrible, but we had a ton of fun doing it.

It was challenging, exciting and scary as hell at the same time looking at that camera. Now..whole different story… we don’t even notice the camera is there.

Why did you start podcasting?

We wanted to try something fun and work on a project that go us away from the typical 9–5 office job.

We picked MMA as a medium because we always found ourselves in heated discussions about the sport and thought it would be great to base a show around our love for MMA.

What’s your show about?

Its about two guys sitting in our basement drinking beer and acting silly….or wait, that’s already been done hasn’t it. Schwing!

Basically we are the mixed martial arts show for normal people.

We give you our real opinions which are usually heavily biased without regard for political correctness or what some guy in a suit thinks is appropriate. We love martial arts.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

We use a Canon 1080p Camera with a wide angle lens to record the video and our audio portion consists of Shure WL183 Omnidirectional Wireless Lavalier Mics patched through a Behringer Multicom Pro-XL MDX4600 Compressor,  Mackie Onyx–1220i mixer, and all being recorded into a Zoom HN4 recorder.

Skype calls are also routed through the board and inserted into the main mix.

We use Audacity for the Audio and Final Cut Pro for the Video. Editing is done on an i7 iMac

How have you promoted your podcast?

We promote the podcast through our Website, Facebook, Youtube, iTunes, and various other social networks. A lot of the promotion really comes from the heavy interaction with our fans on a daily basis and word of mouth.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

We should have bought better audio and video gear from the start rather than waiting for a year or so to do it.

Those first 20–30 shows had so many technical issues it nearly drove us insane.

Quite a few times we would do an hour long show only to realize the audio was totally unusable or the video had a problem etc. causing us to have to immediately do the same hour long show again! Talk about frustrating!

Calling all of YOU! You know who you are – you normal mixed martial arts fan – yes, you – this is YOUR show! So stop sitting back and subscribe!
