Q & A with Liam from UttaBull

When did you start podcasting?

19th March  2010

Why did you start podcasting?

I like the sound of my own voice, we (me and my sister) were always mucking around as kids making mini radio shows on a twin cassette deck.

Once I realized just how easy it was to record a show and get it online we just had to do it, so me and my sister started recording,

She lasted around 20 shows. 163 shows in, and I am still recording, with my best friend from school.

What’s your show about?

What isn’t it about. UttaBull is a self branded “pub chat style talk show” where we talk about what’s been going on, what we have been up to, and anything else that happens to come up.

Just like anyone else would when they go to the bar/pub. – we always tried to be family friendly, but inevitably we fail.

My mum listens to most of the shows, and on the second or third show I swore and instantly realizing my mistake said “sorry Mum” at that point it stuck, and since then all co-hosts and guests have said it when they have said something inappropriate, a lot of the time without even being told.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

Main Hosts, have Rode Podcasters, recorded via Skype using Audio Hijack Pro, and then edited and Rendered using Reaper. Unless we are using the UBOBU “Uttabull outdoor broadcasting unit” which is an ATR2100 and an iPad, with Bossjock Installed.

How have you promoted your podcast?

We are a spin off, of a spin off, so we had a huge audience to advertise to in the beginning as we got talked about. apart from that it’s twitter. Marketing is the one thing we are really, really bad at and have yet to actually make any progress in.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

People don’t hear the same things that I do when I edit shows. Umms, Ahhs, and the odd bit of dead air really isn’t the end of the world for an amateur internet radio show.

Also, The first 25 shows will probably suck, The next 75 will be ok, and the ones after that will get better and better, as the hosts get stronger and stronger.  – but ultimately KEEP GOING.

Having a non niche show means that People will only find you if they are looking for you, especially if you use a name Like Uttabull, that’s made up and isn’t a word you google EVER.

We are listed as a comedy show, (I have fun making it, and we laugh) but that has to be one of the hardest sectors to be found in as were up against some of the biggest shows on the Internet (look for us at the bottom of iTunes!)

Either way, we have listeners, we have had a listener meet up, (in Las Vegas of all places) and a second one is Planned in The Isle of Man in 2015.

Moral of the Story?  If i knew that over the last 4.5 years of making shows, I wouldn’t of worried about it half as much as I do.

If you want a pub chat style show and you wanna tap into the essence of podcasting Utta Bull is your go to! They’ve got so much going on over there that you’re just gonna have to hook up: subscribe in iTunes and keep an eye on for up and coming new stuff via Twitter.

If you just need to get behind the mic and start podcasting, we’d love to get you started with podcasting.
