Q & A with Terry from Discovering America Podcast
When did you start podcasting?
October 2013, yea I’m still a rookie.
Why did you start podcasting?
After listening to “History of Rome” and a few other history programs, I realized none covered the discovery and exploration of America. In walks me.
What’s your show about?
I cover the exploration and voyages to the shores of the North & South American continents.
What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.
I use a standard windows 7 PC (ex-gaming computer), dual monitor for ease of use when reading and writing documents.
For recording I use a Samson, Meteor USB condenser mic.
I really like the “Audacity” editing software but, I have not used anything else, (free is a big part of it, yes I feel guilty).
I have the Audacity software set at input .28 and 14400 with a final mp3 at 96 (I know it should be lower but, Rob did say…)
I use the Mp3tag software for tags.
How have you promoted your podcast?
Right now only on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Tumbler, No paid promotions.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
- To put a number in the title for each podcast, “45- de Soto goes to Washington”.
- When I have more than one episode per topic, to announce it at the beginning of the show, “This is part two covering the continued expedition of Cortez”.
I did fifteen episodes on de Soto’s expedition through the southern states. Sure they are dated as I upload them but, without that, the title does not give the listener any type of order. My son brought this up to me.
On a mobile device it only lists the episodes and title and as before mentioned without a number in the title you really don’t have a very good idea on the last episode that was listened to.
