Q & A with Christopher from Too Nerdy For TV

When did you start podcasting?

Launched February 4, 2012

Why did you start podcasting?

It was born out of two ideas. Erik and I have tried to do a project together for a few years. BJ and I were big fans of podcasts like Nerdist and Smodcast.

I would have long pop culture conversations with Erik and BJ separately and they each thought why not just record those as a podcast. Erik and I talked about it first, then BJ and I.

Both projects were having trouble getting traction until we decided to combine them. Erik invited Mikey along and we became Too Nerdy For TV. We refer to ourselves and our supporters as Team Too Nerdy.

What’s your show about?

Our show is about all things pop/nerd/geek culture. We talk movies, comics, TV, video games, table top games, cosplay, tech news, and more. We also cover the Dallas convention scene. We do interviews and record panels for people who can’t get to the conventions.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

We are a simple setup. We use a Blue Microphones Yeti, a laptop, and Audacity. We run everything through Levelator to clean it.

We record interviews and panels with pocket digital voice recorders. We are moving to Google Hangouts soon to help accommodate everyone’s schedules.

How have you promoted your podcast?

Our podcast promotion is mainly word of mouth, Facebook, and Twitter. We get out name out there during conventions and try to stay active on social media.

We are lucky to have a good relationship with a large group (The Geekvengers) on Facebook that helps cross promote our show.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

How time consuming the editing would be and how difficult it would be to get everyone together on a regular basis to record.
