Q & A with Clavel from CybrCast

When did you start podcasting?

Just started podcasting officially in the middle of December 2013. It has been something I’ve thought about since about 2005 however.

I listen to a great deal of podcasts as well, and it’s been like that since late 2005- early 2006. I Actually recorded an episode with a cousin of mine, but we never released it.

I have decided that I’ll give this a try again, and so far it’s working out great. We don’t have many listeners but we are really enjoying creating this show.

Why did you start podcasting?

I am always having discussion with my cousin Ty Polak about different issues pertaining to technology, and sometimes I felt it would be cool to have those recorded.

A couple of months ago I basically just told him that we are just gonna do this.

I figured my brother Dick Daly, with whom I always have great discussions would be a great addition to our “round table”. After much research and thinking about it, we just decided to get on Skype and record.

What’s your show about?

The CybrCast is where we ramble about the stuff we like: the latest cyber, technology, or whatever the heck we find interesting.

So far we sort of focus on things we find compelling, but in the future I’d like to perhaps take a bit of a deeper dive into some specifics involving technology.

Right now we are just focused on doing.

And we will refine as time goes on.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

I’m recording on an iMac mid–2011, recording into Audacity.

I am using a Audio-Technica ATR–2100 usb mic on a desktop mic stand. Along with some Air Pollution headphones, they are not the greatest but do the job for now.

The audio is also recorded on the other end by my co-hosts via Audacity. They send me the files via Google Drive and then I edit it all in Audacity.

I am actually looking to see if I’ll continue in Audacity or perhaps move over to Apple Logic Pro X, however not sure I can justify the extra cost just yet.

I am using Libsyn to host my files, and am using a WordPress site to create the website.

How have you promoted your podcast?

I haven’t done much in promoting outside just word of mouth to friends and family.

We also have a Facebook page and Twitter account, but nothing else outside of that.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

I wish I knew how easy it was to start, especially when you have a host like Libsyn, the unlimited downloads is great, I always worried that I would start the podcast and it would cost me an arm and leg for the downloads.
